At Sunnyside Manor, we believe home is a place where each person is valued and honored for their unique experiences, talents, and gifts. That’s why we are so proud of the resident run activities that are part of the variety of programs here in our community. Our programming offers something for everyone. That means a full calendar and space to do your own thing!

Each resident who took the initiative to start their own program had a unique motivation. For some, it was the continuation of an activity they had always led and enjoyed. Others saw an opportunity to create something new and different. For all, it is a way to connect with others and make Sunnyside Manor home.

Resident Run Programs

Here is a peek into just a few of our resident run activities, and how they came to be at Sunnyside Manor.

Book Club 📖

Janis founded the Sunnyside Manor book club three years ago. The Sunnyside Manor book club is a continuation of other book clubs she organized before moving to the community. Janis values the book club for the mental stimulation, how it helps keep people involved and engaged, and as a way to make new friends. The book club is open to anyone at Sunnyside Manor who likes to read! Some of the group’s recent selections include: Silver Girl, by Elin Hilderbrand; Elegance of The Hedgehog, by Muriel Barbery; and The Secret Diary of Hendrick Groen, 83 1/4 Years Old, by Hendrick Groen.

It’s Never Too Late to Learn 🎓

“It’s Never Too Late to Learn” is both the name of the group started by Murray, and the spirit with which it is organized. Murray prepares videos that focus on biographies of historical people and events to share with anyone at Sunnyside Manor who is hungry for knowledge. The group has been active for over three years. Murray regularly posts topics in advance and invites others to join and learn.

Men’s Club 🎩

Bob saw an opportunity for the men of Sunnyside Manor to express themselves and enjoy camaraderie. The Men’s Club is a relative newcomer to Sunnyside Manor, and Bob says that the group enjoys coming up with ideas for new things to do together.

Rosary

For Jane, Bridget, and Philomena, who organize the Rosary group at Sunnyside Manor, faith is an important part of their lives. They view the group as a way to meet a spiritual need and find comfort. Started by Jane over five years ago, the group finds meaning in prayers for other residents, staff, and anyone in need of help. With assistance from the Sunnyside Manor staff, they post flyers around the community and in mailboxes, and take “reminder laps” through the hallways on the days the group meets.

Each resident at Sunnyside Manor brings something unique to our community. We’re thrilled to see friendships and ideas develop around resident run activities, and to see how residents personalize their experiences to make Sunnyside Manor home.
